Happy Valentines Day thoughtful and kind Vikings!  Speaking of love, the Pennies for Patients program will share your loving and generous donations with cancer patients all over the country.  Last year students across the USA raised over 26 million dollars through the Pennies for Patients program. Stacked on top of one another, that's enough pennies to make it around the world 1.3 times!  But Pennies for Patients is about more than just pennies (and dimes, and nickels...) it's about changing lives by finding a cure. Help boost your class's totals by remembering to share your online fundraising page with your family, and your family's friends. It's easy and fun to share your online page - post a link in your Instagram profile or have your parents share the link on their facebook page!  Since its founding in 1949, the Leukemia and Lymphoma society has invested over a billion dollars in cancer research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. This research has paid off. In the 1960's the survival rate for the most common form of childhood leukemia was only 3%. Today, it's approximately 90%! But we still have work to do, so please consider helping out your classroom with a donation today.

Reminder tomorrow and every Thursday is Viking PRIDE Day - wear your spirit clothes or blue and white to show your school PRIDE.

Good Morning generous Vikings!  Today's daily Pennies for Patients announcement is all about money.  Did you know that US paper money isn't paper at all? It's actually cloth - a form of finely pressed linen!  In Ben Franklin's day, people repaired torn bills with a needle and thread. Speaking of Ben Franklin, he's on the $100 bill...  One hundred dollars in donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helps fund the First Connection Program, a peer-to-peer program that matches newly-diagnosed patients and their families with trained volunteers.  With our donations, Valley View is making that happen!

On February 22, leadership will be hosting a Black and White themed dance from 3:15-5:45. Pre-sale tickets will be sold the week of the dance for only $5. However, the price increases to $8 if you wait to buy your tickets on the day of the dance. At the dance many fun games, delicious food, and refreshing drinks will be offered in addition to a photo booth and DJ of course! You will be able to hang out with your friends and have lots of fun! In addition, a large raffle will be held, and you will have a chance to win some amazing prizes. Don't hesitate, and buy your tickets to the Black and White dance now!

This is the end of our first week of Pennies for Patients, and we are excited to see how much your homeroom has raised!  Builders Club members will be coming by today to collect your classroom boxes, and we will let you know on Monday which classrooms are in the lead for the Olive Garden luncheon.  But don't despair if you're not at your goal yet, as there are two more weeks before we will announce the winners! This weekend, think of the year that you were born, and try to find coins made in that year! Bring them back to your classroom to show your teacher and put in your Pennies for Patients box.

Thanks to all the talented Vikings who came to call-back auditions for the Drama Club spring production of "Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon" on Thursday. Unfortunately, there are only 20 acting parts in the play and some students who auditioned will not be selected to be in the play. Mr. Dingman encourages all who were not cast in the play to try again for future productions at school, in community theatre, or anywhere else you can let your talent shine! You could also volunteer for technical theatre backstage work for our current school production. All students who auditioned at callbacks should check the cast list which will be posted outside room E-12 before lunch time on Monday, and come to our first cast meeting on Tuesday, from 3-4:30 in the MPR. We will discuss exact roles for each actor as well as pass out scripts and the rehearsal schedule.

The first meeting for all students who signed up for the backstage tech crew will be Wednesday after school, 3-4:30 in the MPR. See Mr. Dingman in room E-12 with any questions regarding drama.

How would you like to go on a blind date with a book? Stop by the Library Monday to Thursday and select one of the beautifully wrapped books for your date. You also will be entered in a drawing for a $5.00 gift card when you return the book and bookmark. Check the Library for more information.

Valley View Vikings, YOU ARE AMAZING!  At the end of our first week of Pennies for Patients, we have raised over $1700 to help cure cancer, and this week we can do it again!  A special thank you to all the Builders Club members who sacrificed their lunchtime and early dismissal on Friday to count all those coins!  Mrs. Thames's homeroom has jumped out to an early lead, thanks largely to the online fundraising done by the amazing Samantha Kert! Other homerooms donating OVER $100 already are Mrs. Siciliano's homeroom, Mrs. Yant's homeroom and Mrs. Broberg's homeroom.  Honorable mention goes to Mrs. White's homeroom and Mrs. Crumrine's homeroom - you guys are proof that small change adds up! There can be only one winner of the Olive Garden Pasta Party, but any other homeroom that raises over $300 will be treated to a donut breakfast party compliments of Builders Club, and homerooms raising over $150 will earn a candy-bar party reward!  Everyone who has helped by collecting change or spreading the word online should give yourselves a big pat on the back! Today we start our second week of Pennies for Patients, and your counted and emptied boxes are being returned to your classrooms by Builders Club members. Let's see who will be the first to fill their box this week!

Any students that participated in the California State Cup this weekend, please meet at the amphitheater at the end of announcements

Thanks to the nearly 50 students who came to callback auditions for the drama club production this past Thursday. All students who auditioned for an acting role should check the cast list which will be posted outside room E-12 by first lunch today. If your name is on the cast list, please come to the first cast meeting and read through tomorrow, Tuesday, 3-4:30 in the MPR-Cafeteria. At that time specific roles will be announced, and scripts and rehearsal schedules will be distributed. Students who signed up for tech theatre will have their first meeting on Wed. from 3-4:30 in the MPR-Cafeteria. See Mr. Dingman in room E-12 with any drama questions.

Valley View is the only school to guarantee to get every Viking in our award-winning yearbook at least 3x. February 28 is the deadline to get your yearbook personalized and engraved for only $6. You can also add an emoji icon for only $4. Simply fill out the personalization form and return the funds to the main office by or before the deadline. If you have not purchased a yearbook yet, you can still buy one online. Please hurry time is running out!

Hey, Amazing and generous Vikings! Pennies for Patients isn't just about pennies, and you don't have to bring in your own money... You can raise money online too.  If you haven't set up your personal donation page yet, there's still time to do so and spread the word about our Pennies for Patients drive to your friends and family who may live far away!  All the instructions are on the flyer you received at the beginning of the program. Mrs. Yant's dog has an online donation page, why don't you? The money you're raising goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, whose mission it is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, AND to improve the life of patients and their families.  Many treatments discovered through LLS funding are now used for many other diseases. Donations from Pennies for Patients help families of patients pay for medicines, doctors, or other expenses, and also help fund research focused on finding a cure. How many families will we help through our Pennies for Patients fundraiser?

On February 22, leadership will be hosting a Black and White themed dance from 3:15-5:45. Pre-sale tickets will be sold the week of the dance for only $5. However, the price increases to $8 if you wait to buy your tickets on the day of the dance. Reminder to all Viking basketball players to get your squads ready for the lunchtime 5 on 5 basketball tournament.  Sign-ups are at lunch on Wednesday in front of the gym. You can sign up early with Mr. Breier in PE as well. Please have your 5 or 6 players and your college team name ready. Good luck Vikings.

All students who tried out for an acting role in the spring play production should have checked the cast list posted outside room E-12. If your name is on that list, you are expected to attend the first cast meeting and rehearsal TODAY, Tuesday after school, 3-4:30 pm. At this meeting, all acting cast members will learn their specific role in the play, as well as receive a script and a rehearsal schedule. If any cast member cannot attend today's first meeting, it is very important you speak with Mr. Dingman (room E-12) so you are not in danger of being replaced in the cast. The first meeting for all students who signed up for backstage technical theatre work is Wednesday after school, 3-4:30 in the MPR. Tech students please attend if you are serious about working backstage on our upcoming production. Students who do not attend rehearsals regularly will be dropped from the tech crew list. As always, see Mr. Dingman in room E-12 with any drama questions.
